| Tasting Notes: | Marked for its distinct elegance and classic Old World style, the 2010 Quintus was crafted to express the benefitts of the cool growing season. At only 13% alcohol, savory red fruit enlivens the palate. Ripe strawberry and spicy cherry flavors in the front are met by sweet cedar and black tea in the mid-palate. Quintus has a bright acidity and healthy chalky tannins that play o one another to create a full mouthfeel that lingers on your palate. Notes of chocolate and hints of minerality are woven throughout the wine. We used 25% whole clusters to add structure to the wine and to lift the mid-palate. With every vintage of Quintus we strive to capture the individuality of the vineyard and the personality of the vintage. |
| Vineyard Notes: | Our de Coelo estate vineyard is perched on a rugged hilltop five miles from the Pacific Ocean, where rocky, shallow soils and the cooling fog o Bodega Bay create ideal conditions for exceptional Pinot Noir. is 25-acre Biodynamc vineyard is divided into two blocks: Quintus and Terra Neuma. Quintus sits lower on the hillside where the soil is a little deeper and vigor is slightly higher. It is typically harvested after Terra Neuma and exhibits a rich, earthy quality. |
| Production Notes: | The parcels of de Coelo that make up our Quintus blend are planted with clones 667, 777 and Swan. The grapes were harvested at night to protect their delicate flavors and to preserve freshness. Like Terra Neuma, this Pinot Noir is unfiltered and fermented with native yeast. Before bottling Quintus rests in French oak barrels for sixteen months. |

2010 was a year of lower than normal precipitation and cooler temperatures, allowing longer hang times, and became an ideal growing season for Pinot Noir. We received an accelerating heat spell late August that helped to develop fruit sugars, and fortunately September allowed for extended hang time for the flavors to catch up.
