BENZIGER FARMING PRACTICES
FARMING FOR FLAVORSTM
Farming for Flavors is an advanced sustainable farming program that challenges all Benziger growers to cultivate grapes with more character, distinctive flavors and aromas. The program, which promotes sound agriculture practices such as biodiversity, soil revitalization and the protection of native yeasts, empowers growers to capture the individuality of the vineyard, vintage and varietal. In addition to nurturing grapes of heightened quality, Farming for Flavors promotes a healthier environment.
For more than 10 years, the Benzigers have worked closely with their Sonoma County grower families to develop vineyard-specific farming plans for flavorful grapes grown by good farming practices and sustainable methods. Farming for Flavors will require an annual third-party audit of all Benziger growers to ensure they meet the program’s standards in the following areas: Canopy management, management of water and irrigation, fertility, vineyard floor management, pest management, site selection and landscape ecology.
