2008 Dragonsleaf Syrah

2008 Dragonsleaf Syrah

This Syrah displays classic Rhône characteristics. Rich, ripe flavors of blackberry and plum marry with spicy tobacco; smoke and herb components give the wine a rustic finish. Its medium-sized chalky tannins slowly unveil toasty oak essence which enhances all the fruit flavors for a savory, evenly packaged wine.

About This Wine

The Dragonsleaf Vineyard is located on the western slope of Sonoma Mountain. The proximity of this vineyard to the coast creates a dual climate which is beneficial in many respects. Cool morning fog keeps the fruit protected from extreme summer heat, while the warm afternoon breeze gently dries the clusters, eliminating the worry of botrytis. The fruit experience full sun all year long, without high heat intensity, which allows for slow and even ripening - resulting in soft tannins and full, ripe, black fruit flavors.

The fruit experience full sun all year long, without high heat intensity, which allows for slow and even ripening - resulting in soft tannins and full, ripe, black fruit flavors. During the 2008 growing season the elements played a huge role in our vineyard management – from frost to drought, high winds to heat waves and eventually smoke from fires hundreds of miles away, we were hard at work from start to finish. Initially, harvest began early in August, but cooler temperatures slowed things down and it continued at an even pace that lasted into October.
Production Notes: The grapes were cold soaked 3 days prior to fermentation in open top fermenters, punched down by hand and then pressed lightly to maintain a delicate balance between flavors, color and tannin. Aged in toasted French oak, this wine was released in March, 2011.
Production: 703 cases produced.
