Vintage
1996 was a very warm and early growing season with a smaller than average crop. With having a smaller crop, the vines are able to put more energy into the grapes. And the warmer days in Alexander Valley help the fruit reach complete maturity before harvest.
Vinification
We use various blocks within the vineyard to create a more complex and concentrated wine. Each block was fermented in open top fermentors and then placed in French and American oak for 18 months. Then this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was bottled in April of 1998.
Tasting Notes
Full intense aromas of black currant, plum and spicy vanilla with rich full flavors of ripe black cherry, cassis, and smoky oak, finishing with long soft tannins. Try this wine with prime rib or rack of lamb.
