Vintage
Vintage 2001 saw the return of a warmer, earlier season following three vintages in a row noted for their coolness. Bloom enjoyed nearly perfect conditions for fruit set followed by a long, warm summer.
Vinification
Carneros grapes were culled at harvest, whole cluster pressed and each lot was individually cold barrel-fermented (53° Fahrenheit) for about five weeks, in 85% American and 15% French oak barrels, prior to aging on the lees for eight months. Fifty percent underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation. The wines were blended and bottled in August 2002. Alcohol 13.5%, Total acidity .66, pH 3.34, Residual sugar .08.
Tasting Notes
Aromas are of pear, pineapple and toasty yeast. Flavors are of carmeled apple, vanilla, sweet oak and yeast. Rich, velvety body balanced by excellent acidity. Full-flavored with a clean finish.
