2006 Sauvignon Blanc, North Coast
Alcohol 13.5% | Total Acidity .69 | pH: 3.32
WINEMAKING | Our winemaking focus is to craft a true-to-varietal, crisp, fresh, bright, fruity Sauvignon Blanc with a subtle grassiness and clean finish. After strict canopy management and crop thinning, the lots were tank fermented in stainless steel. The special care that encouraged the perfect fruit-to-acid balance in the vineyard was also taken in the cellar to ensure the same balance in the bottle. The wine was bottled in March 2007.
VINTAGE | 2006 was truly a year won in the vineyard. A record heat spike that lasted 10 days in July shut down the vines until the weather cooled again, and made growers nervous about sunburn on the ripening grapes. Later in the year, rain led to frantic leafing in an effort to let sun and air into the clusters. Botrytis was a threat, especially to Chardonnay, and many growers had to drop clusters that had started to rot or were touching other clusters. In late October the weather dried up and warmed giving grapes a little more hang time. Overall, it was a late harvest with excellent quality and some of the largest volumes of Pinot and Cabernet that Sonoma County has seen in many years.
TASTING NOTES | Stainless steel fermentation gives this wine a delicious crisp, cleanness that enhances its’ citrus flavors and floral aromas. The generous fruit is supported by the acidic structure and the impressive mouthfeel. The brightness of the wine is revealed in every sip. Enjoy with white fish, summer salads or fresh fruit.
