2007 Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
- AVA: Sonoma Coast
- Released: May
VINTAGE | In 2007, a dry winter led to a relatively early bud break. Overall, the growing season was evenly paced with a few heat spikes in the early part of summer. Warm August weather started harvest early, but a cool September slowed things down and increased hang time on the vines another few weeks. This cool period helped to develop complexity in the fruit while keeping sugars under control. 2007 was one of the longest harvests Sonoma County has seen in recent years, spanning almost three months from start to finish. This vintage was smaller in quantity than 2006, but the lower yields meant more concentrated flavors.
WINEMAKING | The cool climates of the Sonoma Coast and Carneros regions are ideal for Pinot Noir because the growing conditions of each promote deep and complex flavors. Cool fog and sea breezes off San Pablo Bay influence winegrowing in these areas. Canopy development is reduced by the wind, resulting in lower yields and creating more concentrated flavors in the fruit. Seven vineyards are represented in this blend, resulting in a balanced and complete wine. Choosing the best sites for our Sonoma Coast Pinot allows us to capture the depth of Carneros along with the aromas of the Russian River Valley.
