Benziger Family Winery

Bengizer Estate “Home” Ranch

Our family has been growing grapes on Sonoma Mountain for over 30 years. Mike Benziger and his wife, Mary discovered the incredible property that has become our family’s estate winery and home in the late seventies and purchased it with the help of our parents, Bruno and Helen. Soon after, all seven Benziger siblings were living on or close to the ranch as New York transplants in a Sonoma vineyard.

In the mid 90’s, we began transitioning our home ranch to a Biodynamic farm. We learned which flowers attracted the bugs we needed to keep pest populations in control. Habitats were created for birds and owls, and we brought cows, sheep and chickens to live on the property. Once the estate found its balance, the wines did too. From our home ranch came Tribute, the first Biodynamic wines from Sonoma or Napa Counties. Today, we are proud to be living and working on a healthy, vibrant ranch that is home to numerous species of plants, animals and insects and we love sharing this special place with visitors from all over the world.

2014 Oonapais

The 2014 Oonapais is firm and vibrant. This blend (61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Malbec, 13% Merlot 5% Cab Franc) is very rich and well-structured with a deep layered core of currant, blackberry, mocha and sweet earth. Revel in its pleasingly long, lingering aftertaste.

2014 Obsidian Point

This beefy Bordeaux blend is heavy on Cabernet Sauvignon and allures with dark aromas of cocoa, toasty oak, and herbs. The flavors are ripe and succulent, backed by firm but well integrated tannins. Black cherry, clove and pepperwood coat the palate. The finish is long and clean.

2014 Tribute

Our 2014 Tribute is deep, intense and well-structured, with a sharp focus on its tight-knit mix of sweet earth, blackberry and wild berry notes. The mid-palate senses a touch of anise, dried herb and underbrush. The finish ends in a burst of ripe fruit and dusty, fine-grained tannins.

2016 Paradiso de Maria Sauvignon Blanc

Aromas of ripe apricots and peaches emanate from the glass. Notes of honeysuckle, apple and citrus awaken the palate while its creamy, chalky minerality give the wine a round, pure finish. Overall a fresh, bright Sauvignon Blanc that is pleasing alone or married to edibles.
