Estate Vineyard Manager
Vineyard Foreman, Joaquin Corona has led our estate vineyard team through the challenges of Biodynamic(R) farming for over 20 years. Joaquin's bond with the land is demonstrated by the steely clarity with which he approaches the daily demands and complexities of viticulture. "Some plants grow too much, and some not enough. It's my job to understand why," he explains.
"Joaquin's abiding spirit and reverence for nature are an inspiration to me personally and integral to Biodynamics," says Winemaker Mike Benziger. "We couldn't farm this way without him and the entire vineyard team."
General Manager of North Coast Operations
Mark Burningham received a bachelor's degree from San Diego State University in Business Management with an emphasis in marketing, and took various viticulture classes at UC Davis. Mark came to know Benziger Family wines while handling them for his wine distributing business in Santa Rosa. When he joined the winery in 1987, he threw himself into the development of the business with such Benziger-like zeal that he eventually became an unofficial member of the family. Today, Mark works closely with Benziger's growers and is dedicated to farming for quality and flavor. Mark manages the grape supply for Benziger Family Winery's contracted vineyards, and the Farming for Flavors Certified Sustainable Grape Growing Program.
Offsite Vineyard Manager
Alejandro "Lalo" Avalos joined the team in 1999. He has spent 15 years working with the Benzigers and our long-time Vineyard Foreman, Joaquin Corona and now manages three of our Estate ranches: de Coelo, Sunny Slope and Bella Luna. Lalo is committed to the timely application of all appropriate vineyard projects and does a great job making sure our grapes are getting the right treatment on any given day.
Director of vineyards and Estate Properties
Jeffery Landolt joined Benziger Family Winery in February of 2014 and is our Director of Vineyards and Estate Properties. Previously, Jeffery held several Viticulturist and Vineyard Manager Positions. He comes to us with an undergraduate degree in International Business from San Diego State University and a Master’s of Science in Crop Science and Viticulture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Jeffery coordinates all aspects of Imagery’s vineyard operations, from necessary equipment to labor schedules and budgets. Additionally, he is the winemaker of Quintus, a Pinot Noir from our Sonoma Coast vineyard, de Coelo.
