Five miles from the ocean, between the small coastal towns of Bodega and Freestone lies de Coelo Vineyard. The property was virgin soil and we were recruited by the previous owners because of our Biodynamic farming practices. This vineyard experiences fog from the ocean and gets more rain than we are used to here in the Sonoma Valley. Thus, the de Coelo vineyard is dedicated entirely to crafting Pinot Noirs with an authentic sense of place. The Sonoma Coast is experiencing the renaissance and wild west feel that occurred in Burgundy’s Cote D’Or during the 60s and 70s.
Using the Burgundian model for growing Pinot Noir, we farm individual blocks at de Coelo and produce three distinctly different Pinots from this property: Quintus, Terra Neuma and Arbore Sacra. We like to think of our wines from de Coelo as Pinot in 3D; the three dimensions being aromatics, flavor and texture. de Coelo is a Demeter-Certified Biodynamic vineyard.
