Tasting Notes: While evaluating the Sunny Slope lots we came across a lot that showed a unique balance of elegance and resonance. We decided to bottle this seperately to demonstrate the many characteristics of this one-of-a-kind vineyard and of course for your enjoyment. We present to you, Lot 7. Ripe red fruit and dried oak aromas allude to the flavors that drive this wine. Red currant, red raspberry and a delicate oak spice flow through the palate with a slight middle grip from its vibrant acidity and grainy tannins. Pair with game birds (duck, pheasant) or mustard marinated pork loin.
Winemaker Notes: Earth: Sunny Slope Vineyard’s vines were planted in holes drilled or pick-axed out of fractured stone over 30 years ago. The deep roots – a result of maturity and years of laboring for water – combine with the warm southwest exposure, produce thick-skinned grapes which give us the concentrated flavors, inky color and extracted tannins that distinguish this vineyard. Nature: Located in the eastern foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, the fruit selected for this wine is grown in an area of the Sonoma Valley that obtains southwestern sun exposure. The vineyard’s positioning and warm location allow for maximum sunlight exposure, which results in grapes with complex and fully developed dark fruit flavors. Man: Each lot in the Sunny Slope Vineyard has a unique expression of soil and vine variation. Of the individual lots of Merlot and Cabernet Franc chosen for this blend, each embodied the unique combination that were most desired by the winemaker. The fruit was harvested, fermented and aged separately, 30% new oak for 18-24 months, in order to develop and maintain their own inherent personality. Drink now or cellar for the next 5-7 years.
